Background:
 Bamidele Juliet Akinyele holds a Ph.D degree in Microbiology from The Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. Her main fields of research are in food and industrial Microbiology with special interest in Mushroom Biotechnology Mycology and Food Microbiology. She is currently working on the utilization of indigenous wastes for the cultivation of edible/medicinal mushrooms and DNA transformation of wild edible mushrooms for large scale productions. She holds several certificates for participating in trainings and workshops including Basic Techniques in Modern Biotechnology; Mentoring and Role Modeling for Women in Agricultural Sciences at The Federal University of Technology, Akure by African Women in Agricultural Research and Development(AWARD); International Course on Ensuring Food Safety in Times of Global Change at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Rehovot, Israel; Mycotoxin Analysis and Control Techniques by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC); Mentoring Workshop by AWARD at Nairobi, Kenya and Current Techniques and Teaching Methods in Microbiology by American Society For Microbiology Conference of University Educators (ASMCUE) at Austin, Texas, USA. Prof. Akinyele collaborates with colleagues in the different areas of microbiology research with a view of developing antimicrobial agents and nutraceuticals from mushrooms as well as bio-converting renewable substrates by fungi and mushroom mycelia for food and feedstock. She is a member of several professional bodies including Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Trieste, Italy; International Society for Mushroom Science (ISMS), U.K; Society for Applied Microbiology (SfAM), U.K; Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM); Mycological Society of America (MSA), USA; American Society for Microbiology (ASM), USA; and African Society for Edible and Medicinal Mushroom (ASEMM). Prof. Akinyele is currently a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, The Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria where she has been lecturing since October 1996. She has attended many National and International Conferences making significant contributions in curriculum development, knowledge transfer, mentoring and community services. She has served as a resource person in the accreditation of microbiology courses in some tertiary institutions in Nigeria including Yaba College of Technology, Lagos; Federal Polytechnic, Ede; Institute for Management and Technology, Enugu and Mushrooming: Mushroom Cultivation in Nigeria at the National Directorate for Employment/ UNDP skill acquisition training programme, Akure. She also serves as a reviewer of some local and international journals in her field. Prof. Akinyele has authored and co-authored eighty(80) publications including peer-reviewed journal publications and conference proceedings. She has successfully supervised ten (10) Ph. D and thirty(30) Masters students’ research projects. Within the University, Prof. Akinyele is a member of University senate and currently the Sub Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies/ She was a representative of congregation in University senate, Hall warden for the Female hostel and has participated in many committees, Board meetings. She has also represented the University, School of Postgraduate Studies, her faculty and Department in several ad-hoc committees with a number of commendation letters for diligent service. Prof. Akinyele is happily married to Prof. Benjamin Oluwole Akinyele and they are blessed children
